It's been awhile since my last update on this blog.
We have been back in Singapore for more than 5 months now and have been caught up in all the responsibilities and obligations of our Singaporean life. It's good to be able to see all our family and friends, while at the same time, missing those friends we made in the UK. However, everyday is now just a blur to me. There don't seem much to update as we settle back into the daily life in hot, humid Singapore.
I have been back at work, resuming my duties. While there were many activities happening when I was away, things are pretty much the same. I certainly hope that I can move on to another dept where my knowledge from my MSc could be put to better use. Oh yeah! It was with much joy that I receive my degree of Master of Science with Distinction in Water Regulations & Management from the University of Surrey. It's a miracle that it happens, and I can only have done it by God's grace and the support of my wife and kids. I am not a scholar, not academically inclined, but God has shown that everything is possible, if you put in the effort and have the passion and interest in life. unfortunately, I do not think that I will be able to attend the graduation ceremony in end Mar at Surrey, due to family and work committments.
Natalie is now in Kindergarten 1. We are fortunate to secure a place for her at the PAP kindergarten near our flat before we came back. She is certainly happy to attend the 4 hr afternoon classes every day, and she is learning all sort of stuff. She comes back with nice drawings and new song & dance, which she liked to perform for us. She also have gotten a few boyfriends and girlfriends too. Georgia & Rebecca have to accompany her to and from class everyday. Not exactly easy, cause we do not have any other adult at home to help out.
It seems that with the hot and humid weather, it is much more easy for us to fall sick, and we all take turns having flu, running nose, fever and cough. It's really weird, cause we hardly fall sick back in the UK, and it's not as if it's the first time we are staying in Singapore.
The other day, Natalie was playing with her cousins in my dad's room, when we went back to visit. She told Randal to roleplay as daddy, and "daddy always scold people". quite a revelation, isn't it? That's what i do all the time? I do scold her quite a bit, as I want her to learn how to behave properly. Even then, Natalie adores and wants to spend her time with me. I love her too, as she is my daughter and I want the best for them. Somehow, natalie's traits are quite the same as my flaws, and I do want her to grow out of those flaws we shared. Guess only daddies understand what I am feeling.
Oh yeah! We also have mixed messages as people/friends/relative around us with kids of the same age scramble to get their child into the top primary schools. This is usually done by volunteering at the schools for an opportunity. We keep wondering whether we are doing our best for Natalie & Rebecca. However, I won't volunteer to get the chance, as I don't want to teach my kids to only volunteer so that they could get something out of it. We are still praying for God's guidance in this. Of course, we would like our kids to go to a catholic primary school for the catholic environment, but unfortunately, there are none nearby Yishun. We grew up and did pretty ok, considering we came from neighbourhood primary schools, but people keep telling us that times are different, and you get the best education and exposure in the top schools. well.....God's will be done. If he wants us to go in a certain direction, He wil provide the means indeed.
