We have had trial after trial for the past two months. First, it was Rebecca's jaundice, which we thought had been resolved after four days of home phototherapy. Then, it was bacterial infection around her neck area. When she turned 5 weeks old and we brought her for the one-month immunisation, the doctor sent her for further blood tests as she thought the baby still looked yellow. So we went, and the results indicated her direct bilirubin count was double that of normal levels. We have to go for another blood test end of next week to ascertain that the direct bilirubin count has fallen, otherwise it would seem that there is blockage in her liver.
Before we could even resolve the jaundice issue, Erjie told us her kids seemed to have contracted Hand-Foot-Mouth disease. So we have spent the last few days checking Natalie. In the face of all these, I had a fall on Monday morning as I was handwashing clothes since the washing machine has broken down. Aaargh!
Anyway at Monica's recommendation, we saw Dr Angelin, a paediatrician, and according to her, Rebecca seemed fine. In fact the doctor was saying the rashes on her face (due to eczema)) is actually more pressing than the jaundice, which should be due to breastfeeding. However, we could still go ahead with the scheduled blood test at the polyclinic next week, just for reassurance. Dr also said that it is uncommon for babies (especially breastfed ones) under one year to contract infectious diseases like HFMD or measles, since the mother will pass on immunity to the child, so we shouldn't worry too much about Rebecca getting HFMD from Natalie in case the latter got infected.
As for Georgia, her elbow felt much better in the past two days, thank God she didn't fracture or sprain it! It's almost back to normal, and now that we have a new washing machine and she is getting rid of the loads of dirty laundry, she seemed much happier :) The skies seem to be clearing and I pray it continues...
