Oct 9 2007 - Some thoughts in the fall

We are nearing the end of our seventh week in UK... time really flies! Christopher is getting very busy with his coursework. He's saying he has 4 or 5 projects on his hands! Hmm, and we thought his 2 days of lectures and tutorials a week very eng eng cheng cheng... haven't factored in the readings and projects, that's why!

Autumn is full blown here now. We are seeing brown and golden leaves everywhere, really a pretty sight. It's been raining most part of today, but as I'm sitting by the windows in the dining room watching the peak traffic pass by on the road outside, the rain clouds have parted to reveal a blue sky and fluffy white clouds. With the last of the sun rays shining on the leaves, it's picturesque. There's something about the autumn sunlight that's so different. It's a muted orange glow. It warms you up, yet does not beat down on you like the summer sun. Nice.

Rebecca has caught the cold bug from Natalie and Christopher. Started with just a running nose after we came back from Cornwall two weeks ago, now it has progressed to coughing. Doesn't bother her much during the day, in fact she still seems quite happy. But at night, the coughing wakes her up sometimes, so both of us have restless nights. Have been giving her cough medicine for the past three days, hope tonight will show up further improvement in her condition!

Natalie has been more than a handful lately as well. She is bent on getting her way all the time and there is no compromise at all. We have tried putting her on the staircase to cool down and reflect ala The Nanny (she cries as long as she's there); ignore her behaviour (she cries louder and harder); the soft approach (reasoning is wasted on her); the hard approach (scolding and even smacking - she doesnt back down, in fact she gets even more defiant). Give in to her, she cries; if we don't give in, she screams.

Tantrum three? Scary.
