Choices of the future

The 2 brown envelopes are finally here. Similiar in size, colour and thickness, they looked pretty ordinary, and it probably is to others. To me, they are significant and important, as it contains the formal offer letters for the 2 MSc course at the University of Surrey, which starts on 10 Sep 07.

Opening the letters with anticipation, and after reading through the letters, I am supposed to return the acceptance form together with payment of the composition fee, which amounts to GBP 10,700. As I am not on scholarship, it only means that I must pay to accept the offer. A check with the exchange rates states that it will set me back by SGD 32,000.00. I have the money, but it means that after that, I will have very little reserves. With the baby coming, I think I do need some money to settle the bills.

The next question is to decide which one of the 2 Msc course to take up.

Msc in Water & Environmental Engineering

This is an established course, with more student intake, and will cover environmental subjects ( waste management), as well as water, with options in water resources, groundwater, hydraulic modelling. It also include a European study tour too.

Msc in Water Regulations & Management

This is a new course that UniS is starting this year, so I will be in the 1st batch. It focuses mainly in water and wastewater treatment, with emphasis onto regulations and management, and an 5-day industrial project. If I take this course, I will skip the waste management in the Env Course, and spend more time with water regulators and suppliers. of course, 1/2 the course is the same as theone in Msc in Water & Env Engineering.

I am still going through the materials and the website http://portal.surrey.ac.uk/portal/page?_pageid=822,354945&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

I am more inclined towards the Msc in Water Regulations & Management, as its more to my taste and is basically what i am interested in now.

Maybe I will delay my decision until after the baby is born.

Rebecca Mae is due anytime now. baby, please come out soon! We can't wait.
